My name is Dorit Barzilay I am a sculptor and a ceramic artist. Born in Tel-Aviv, I now live and work in Ramat-Hasharon.

Since childhood I was drawn to art and worked with it, hence working with clay is a direct continuation of the work I did in the past - painting on various elements as well as figurative oil painting on canvas.

 

From the first moment I felt the ceramic clay with my fingertips, I became "addicted" to sculpturing in ceramics. My creativity burst without limits and this "burst" continues growing every time I start with a new mound of clay.

 

There is something primal and ancient in clay sculpturing which appears also in our holy ancestors’ books since ceramic and clay tools were used by mankind since the dawn of time.

 

There is a primal pleasure in turning a mound of clay into a sculpture which shows uniqueness in form, size and texture. Each sculpture is made for either an internal space or for the outdoor so that my "creations" add beauty and atmosphere to the surroundings. Placing a suitable sculpture in the proper place changes the entire ambiance.

 

Having been trained by various artists in different aspects of sculpturing, I use unique number of methods. I continue training, developing skills and new techniques all the time. Each type and piece which I create by hand is uniquely made. Without using moulds, a special emphasis is placed on high quality finish. My creations are an art of "hand work".

 

Today my work focus is on femininity – an area quite challenging as it presents movement, beauty and complexity. Each time I look at one of my work after baking in the furnace, I am overwhelmed by an excitement which resembles the process of birth – the birth of a new artistic creation.

 

My Studio, located in a pastoral rural area, encourages creative muse and the experiencing of sensations.

I make sculptures to order for display at art galleries. 

My studio has workshops for individuals, groups and organization worker groups.
